Lauren Mix has been a registered nurse since 2013 and spent 6 years working in the specialty of critical care. She always wanted to continue her education and decided on pursuing her master’s degree to become a certified nurse midwife. Educating and empowering women to feel confident in their choices and decisions is a passion of hers and she is committed to helping her patients have the birth experience they desire.
Lauren’s pathway to midwifery started in 2017 after a conversation she had with her cousin who had a home birth. This inspired her to research what midwives do. After reading the works of Ina May Gaskin, watching the Business of Being Born and every episode of Call the Midwife, she took a birthing class taught by a midwife. The midwife’s teachings gave her the confidence and belief that birth is a natural process and most of the time happens safely with minimal interference.
This world of midwifery and concept of being an expert in normal was very foreign to an ICU nurse whose only experience was with the heavy use of interventions in caring for patients. The fact that a career which focuses on something so natural exists sparked her interest and she decided to change paths. In the spring of 2018, she began taking classes at Case Western Reserve University and graduated two years later in the spring of 2020. Her desire to work with the Amish and Mennonite community came from completing clinicals with the midwives at Mt. Eaton Midwifery as well as with one of the local physicians.
In her spare time Lauren enjoys painting, sewing, and reading. She and her husband Shawn live in Cuyahoga Falls with their cat named Beaker. Lauren is looking forward to sharing her skills and getting to know the families she will serve at Mt. Eaton Midwifery!
