Common Cold Remedies

Drink plenty of fluids, get lots of rest Vitamin C supplements, not to exceed 2,000 mg /day during pregnancy Eat Vitamin C-rich foods. Eliminate dairy products, sugar, baked goods from the diet. Eat lighter foods. Add fresh garlic to the diet. Take Echinacea tincture daily for up to 10 days. Drink Miso broth, or chicken noodle soup, with garlic. Apply garlic oil to the toes. Rub Tiger Balm on the chest. For sinuses: soak a washcloth in vinegar and hot water and apply externally.

Here are several herbal teas. They should not be taken for more than 2-3 days at a time during pregnancy.

  1. 1 inch fresh ginger root, simmered in a quart of water for 20 minutes. Add the juice of half a lemon to each cup, honey to taste.
  2. Mash a clove of garlic in a tea cup, add juice of half a lemon, hot water and honey to taste.
  3. Lemon Thyme tea.
  4. Echinacea root (licorice root if not pregnant), mullein, coltsfoot, comfrey.

For a soothing herbal bath, use any of the following:

Horehound, Fresh garlic, Sea salt, Fenugreek, Licorice root, Echinacea root, Mullein, Coltsfoot, Comfrey.

Breathe in the steam while steeping the herbal bath on the stove.

Sit in the steamy bathroom for as long as possible. (While pregnant, do not immerse in water hotter than 99°F).
