FAQ
Most frequent questions and answers
You have an unlimited number of visits with the midwives. Typically, it is best to be seen for your first check-up at around 18 weeks from the first day of your last period or earlier. Then we usually see women every 6 weeks or so unless you want or need to be seen more often. In the third trimester we will see you every one to two weeks.
Absolutely! By prepaying you will be able to receive a $100 discount to your bill.
The best way to treat an emergency is to try to prevent it from occurring. This can be partly accomplished at each prenatal check-up as your midwife screens you for problems and helps educate you on good self care and warning signs. In labor you will be monitored for any problems that might occur. Catching problems early while they are small is best. If need be, we will transfer your care to a more appropriate provider.
At Mt Eaton Care Center all meals and beverages are provided for the mother and father during labor and after the birth.
No problem. Simply call us when you realize your mistake and we will reschedule you. We may call you first and leave a message on your voice mail.
Many items are provided for you and your baby while you are at the Care Center. Pack as if you were spending the night in a hotel. Don’t forget an outfit and blankets to take the baby home in!
At your first prenatal visit, the midwives will ask you if you are open to having one ultrasound in pregnancy. This ultrasound, recommended around 18-20 weeks, can provide reassurance that your baby is growing and developing normally, that your placenta is not too close to the cervix (placenta previa), and that your estimated due date is correct. If there is uncertainty about dates, we will recommend a dating ultrasound. Dating ultrasounds are most accurate when done early in pregnancy, preferably during the first trimester. We have a portable ultrasound in the office that we use for confirming early pregnancy and for position checks if we suspect a breech baby. If you choose to have an ultrasound, the midwives will place an order and we will assist you with scheduling. Most of our clients have ultrasounds at the Mt. Eaton Medical offices, Pomerene Hospital, or Aultman Hospital. Ultrasounds that are available through Ultrasona are not for medical purposes.
Research studies confirm the safety of planned home birth with qualified providers for low-risk women. We are supportive of an informed choice to have a home birth, and are happy to have good working relationships with many local home birth midwives for occasional co-care as needed. At this time however, the Mt. Eaton Midwives attend births exclusively at the Mt. Eaton Care Center.
